A few weeks ago I decided I wanted to show up more in my sketchbook, so I decided to set myself a daily challenge. I thought if I could carve out time in my day to show up, whether it be for 5 minutes or even an hour it was something.
I’m just over 2 weeks in to the challenge and I am really enjoying having fun and experimenting with different techniques. Letting go of limitations of whether or not what I draw is good or bad - and if something goes wrong to just accept it, after all it’s all part of the process and improving my skills ✌🏻

I decided to set a couple of rules to help make it easier to show up:
I have a reminder set up on my phone everyday, and I don’t check that box until it’s complete. The idea is that the notification stays on my home screen to act as a little reminder throughout the day.
I have given myself three themes to help me on the days that I might feel stuck on what to put down on paper: Animals - People - Nature
Although some days I might see something that inspires me, so I go with that.
Keep a travel sized drawing bag to hold some of the basics:
Blackwing pencil - with its trusty rubber on the end
Dual tip brush pens
Windsor & Newton watercolour travel paint set with brush
One thing I am really enjoying experimenting with right now are brush pens, they’re super fun and easy to use and I am loving some of the shapes and shades I’m creating.
I’d love to hear if you have a daily drawing practice or what you like to keep in your drawing bag?
